This movie really sucks, literally!  It’s a vampire movie, what do you expect?  Actually, I
thought it was a pretty good flick if you’re into vampires and this one of the best I’ve seen for
quite some time.  Opening night, 2855 movie theatres reported just under $16 million in box
office revenues which ranked this horror flick #1 in sales.

The story line takes place in remote Barrow, Alaska which is about to endure 30 days of total
darkness before daylight returns.  The town Sheriff, Eben (Josh Hartnett), has just separated
from his wife, Stella (Melissa George) who misses the last flight out of town.  The first night of
darkness brings out the blood sucking horde of vampires lead by Marlow (Danny Huston).
As they feed on the weakest of the 100 plus residents left in town for the winter, only those
with the greatest survival skills are left alive to defend themselves.

The vampires you will see in this film have greatly evolved from those of the past.  They no
longer suddenly grow canines as they are about to victimize their prey, turn into bats or
engage in small talk before seducing their victims, mainly because they have their own
language, complete with sub titles.  Oh no, these guys will bring you out of your seat as you’
re scanning the aisles for the “Exit” sign.  If you’re into Sci-Fi, horror flicks or just want to see
some major blood and guts, this one’s for you!

Warning to Parents

Although I managed to grow up ok after seeing “The Thing” and Vincent Price’s early
vampire flicks, to name a few, it was a long time before I could sleep without a night light.  So,
this having been said, I’d definitely think twice before taking young movie goers to see this
one.  These vampires don’t leave two neat holes in their victim’s neck, they go for the
juggler, big time!  Be prepared to see tons of blood, guts and gore.
