Half Star of 4 Stars

Overacted, Overstuffed and Overlong describes the worst and most boring movie the year.  I have to admit
that the political content did not impress me before watching this movie, however when I finally sat in this
movie and endure a reenactment of the exact same scene over and over and over again, I just wanted to
pull up a pillow and fall asleep.  The first time we see Sean Penn come on to the screen, you will be a little
bit impressed.  He has this charisma that is incredibly transparent and impulsive.  Quickly you just want this
loser to shut up and stop yelling.

All the King’s Men is the remake of an older movie staring Broderick Crawford in a movie with the same title.
This supposed true story is about a “Hick” who has the passion to see change in his community.  He
realizes the corruption of the “system” as a whole and realizes that the “rich” are hording all of the money,
while the poor are just getting poorer.  He feels a sense of entitlement and believes that is his job to be the
modern day Robin Hood and run for office so he can have the opportunity to make change by robbing from
the rich and give to the poor.  When he finally defies the odds and becomes the new Governor of
Louisiana, he uses his power to try and turn Louisiana into a socialist state.  He literally uses his office to
extort, threaten and steal money from the rich and uses his office as a pulpit to enflame hatred against
those who have money.  Yes, his speeches are very reminiscent of the Democrat party today.  He
continuously yells about how bad the oil and energy companies are and how people who make money
should care the “entire” tax burden, simply because they make more money and have it.  There is one
speech that he delivers that about floored me.  He actually says “I want to the rich to eat until they are full,
until they are stuff, and then I want the rest to go to the poor”.  Saying that all of the rich people’s extra
money should ALL be given to the state to pay for programs, roads and schools.  OK I am all for helping
people and I am all for giving with a cheerful heart, however the last time I saw, it was not the government’s
job to steal money.

The movie tried hard to keep it’s focus however because there was such little subject matter other than
hearing Sean Penn yell the whole time, they had to make up soap opera kind of events.  Eventually the
movie lost track of whether they wanted to make this man a hero or a political heretic.  Sean Penn’s
character cheats on his wife with many women, uses thugs to terrorize people and lies and steals to help
give to the poor.  Hummmm, kind of sounds like one of our past presidents doesn’t it?   It was like the
director did not really know what direction to take any of the characters.

I am not one to hate a movie because of the political content.  However I am one to hate a movie because it
gets lost in its own delusion of grandeur.  The director focuses in so much on Sean Penn’s facial
expressions, close ups and yelling that he pushes him to over act the whole entire time.  It is sad because if
he actually mellowed out and showed ANY other expression other than self glorification, he might actually
deserve and academy award nomination, however instead the director achieves the complete opposite
result.

This movie is boring, dumb, and terribly directed.  This movie does not really deserve much more time on
my review, so I am not even going to give it the pleasure of comparing and contrasting both version of the
movie.  Nor am I going to delve into the historical aspect of the movie, because they are totally inaccurate.
If you do dare to sit through this movie, not only will you have a sore bum for the length of the movie but you
will ask for the 2.5 hours of your life back.  That my friends is irreplaceable.

Parental Warning:  Some Language, Some Sexual Reference, Some Mild Nudity and Some Violence.  No,
there is not really an abundance of what I mentioned but it is still in there.  I would say its fine for 13 or 14
and above.  My only concern is that there are many references to Sean Penn’s affairs.

FYI:  There is a reason why this movie was supposed to come out a year ago and then was shelved.  They
knew this kind of garbage should have been left out of the theaters.  Eventually the studio gave in and
decided to show it.
