Plot The storyline is about Barry B. Benson, (Jerry Seinfeld), a bee that just graduated from bee- college who suddenly realizes he has only one option in life and that is to work in the hive until death. By chance he is allowed to leave the hive where he experiences life on the outside where Vanessa, (Renee Zellweger), a florist in New York City, saves his life. As their relationship grows, Barry discovers the human race is consuming great amounts of honey. Angered by this he pursues a law suit against the human race for exploiting bees and the honey that is taken from them. The entire story evolves around the law suit, it’s subsequent out come and the effect it has on the human race.
Bro’Joes Comments: This film was designed to attract adults as well as children and to this end I think it failed. I love Seinfeld and have enjoyed his humor for many years and I think he did about as good a job with Bees as one could expect. But, I thought the storyline (even for a cartoon) was weak to say the least and who the heck wants to see a cartoon character involved in litigation? There were some laughable comments but I found myself dozing off waiting for the end to come. I thought it was painful to watch and kept thinking I could have better spent my 90 minutes pulling weeds in my yard!
Warning to Parents: This is not a good movie for young children. Well, maybe up to about 4 years old it would be ok as some of the sexual content jokes would be over (or should be over) your child’s head. (We counted 7). However, I fear older children would hear the joke, subsequent laughter and then emulate these words later at home or school. I originally was going to rate this with 3 stars for kids and 2 stars for adults but after thinking over the content reduced my rating for children. There are better children’s movies coming up, wait for one of them!
