| Please See Interview with John Kehrli and Dyan Cannon: “The Boynton Beach Club” is by far one of the most inspirational and touching movies of the year. Unlike many movies out there this movie actually has a purpose and a message behind it. Packed with a stellar cast like Dyan Cannon and Michael Nouri, “The Boynton Beach Club” brings together a touching introspective on life as we know it and then life when someone passes on. “The Boynton Beach Club” is a slice of life dramedy about a social community called Boynton Beach. Boynton Beach is a retirement community where seniors go to relax and mingle. The focus of this movie is on about 8 or 9 central characters, all of whom have recently lost someone very close to them, and how they come to terms with both the death of their loved one and their life after the person is gone. They are all members of a support group designed to help seniors feel whole again. OK, about now you are probably thinking what I did. How boring! However, this movie is far from boring and more than a joy to watch. You will find yourself captivated by the characters and engaged intently into seeing resolution in their lives. These true to life situations may be targeted toward the senior community, but they are applicable to pretty much anyone who has been in a similar circumstance. This movie is amazingly original and really reaches a target audience who seem to be left out of movies. Senior Citizens make up a bigger core audience than people give them credit for and that crowd is growing as the Baby Boomers age and longevity increases. This segment of society is looking for quality movies with a message. It appears that most movies today are so focused on big box office draws that they just could care less about making a point or promoting a message. “The Boynton Beach Club” does deal with just about every issue pertaining to being a senior and recovering from losing someone you love. The issue does in fact include sex, so be warned that this movie is not for kids. However when they discuss the intimacy aspect, it is done very tastefully and carefully. There is also a brief nudity scene involving one of the lead characters (NOT Dyan Cannon). If you liked the movie “Something’s Got to Give” with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson, then you will LOVE “The Boynton Beach Club.” Parental Warning: Some Language, Sexual Discussion and Intense Subject Matter 3.5 of 4 Stars |
