The Break Up is a downright fun and fancy-free movie, until we get sucker punched with an end that
leaves too much to the imagination. That said, I actually really enjoyed the movie. I know many critics
are bombing this movie, and for one main point that is understandable. I too struggled with whether I
wanted to give this a good or bad rating. Eventually I came to the conclusion that the movie had
some great humor, solid acting by the leads, good chemistry, and a pretty good story line. Overall it
was a pretty good movie.

The Break Up is about a couple that loves each other dearly, but when the boyfriend (Vince Vaughn)
starts taking the girlfriend (Jennifer Anniston) for granted, she comes to her breaking point. Unlike
most breakups, where people go their own separate ways, they decide to be stubborn and both
refuse to leave the house they share. Vaughn refuses to leave because his pride has been hurt and
Anniston regrets her decision and wants him to come back to her, on his knees, so they can get
back to where they were. Eventually pride gets in the way for both of them and a “war of the roses”
ensues, with each trying desperately to drive the other to the edge of insanity; yet not wanting to
push too hard since they each really hope to get back together.

The fight scenes were some of the most realistic sequences I have ever seen and the witty banter
was hysterical. These two know how to get down and dirty with the best of them. I would have to say
that, aside from everything else, the chemistry is probably what really made this movie work.

What failed movie was the absolutely deplorable supporting cast. They were completely out of their
element and seemed to strain in the attempt to pull off their individual roles. Each plays a fairly
significant role, which makes watching all that much harder. That said, by the time the final battle
occurs you are swept into the emotion of the main characters and left wishing the others were just
gone.

Please be warned about a couple of things: there are enough G-D****’s to sink a ship along with
quite a bit of sexual humor. There was so much foul language that you find yourself becoming
calloused to what is being said, which isn’t a good thing. There is also one nude scene of Jennifer
Anniston’s backside.

Parental Warnings:  This movie probably would have been more suitably rated R because of the
language and sexual humor so I can’t suggest this movie for anyone under 18.

2.5 of 4 Stars for a fun movie with lots of flaws, but still enjoyable. The movie did accomplish its
mission of delivering a fun movie, even with an unstable ending.
