Fuel induced by Formula 51, Cars zooms onto the screen with ground breaking animated special
effects, classy visuals and another amazing story from Pixar/Disney.  From the opening sequence, I
sat there amazed, trying to figure out if what I was watching was animation or reality.  I learned that it
was in fact animation, however with the technology today, they can emulate anything.

Cars is the story of Lightning McQueen who is a rookie Nascar driver who has all of the talent of the
best drivers in the world, wrapped up into one little finger.  However he lacks the team spirit and
humility it takes to become a champion.  In the opening scene, you have a race with Lightning
McQueen, who finishes in a photo finish 3 way tie.  Because of that tie, he must face the other two in
the biggest race of the century, to see who the true champion really is.  On his way to the final race,
which is in one week, he falls out of the trailer that it carrying him and lands in this small town off of
old highway 66, called Radiator Springs.  While zooming through town at record speeds, he is
chased by a police officer.  When the officer’s car begins to backfire, Lightning thinks he is being
fired upon and runs for his life, tearing up the main road that goes through the town.  He is
sentenced to fix the road and then he will be set free, but not until the road is completely finished.
Knowing the race is in a few days, he knows he must either escape or finish the road.  During his
time in the small town, he learns many lessons about humility, team spirit, giving, and sacrifice.  He
transforms from the biggest jerk in racing history, to one of the best role models in the industry.
There is so much more to the storyline, however I want to be careful not to give anything away.

The story was incredibly awesome and it gives kids a chance to realize what it takes to be a hero
and what it takes to be a person of character.  Cars focuses strictly on family values this time around
and that may leave some of the more liberal critics with a sour taste in their mouth.  Personally, I
think this is exactly what a family movie is about.

This movie has all of the elements to make a huge blockbuster and will continue the perfect record
of Pixar to deliver only the best in family cartoons.  Only Pixar can bring together a movie that
actually makes you forget you are watching a cartoon, but lets you enjoy a movie for what it is.
Personally, my favorite cartoon of all time is Beauty and the Beast and the Incredibles but Cars is a
close runner up.

A couple bits of fun insider information about the movie:  The tires are called Lightyear Tires, which
are named after Buzz Lightyear, LIghtyear McQueen’s car number is 95, after the first movie that
Pixar put together “Toy Story” and there are lots of other subtle hints to other Pixar movies in the
film.  If you keep your ears ready, you might catch some.

I give this movie HUGE thumbs up and 4 of 4 stars.
