Rated R for strong violence/gore and language
The Descent is the story of 6 girls who all
have been friends for years.  Before they
all started to get old (upper 20s) they used
to go for daring adventures.  Sarah, one of
the leaders of the group recently lost her
husband and child in a terrible car accident
and a year later is finally ready to branch
out for another outing.  This time they are
destined to enter a cave and journey
through the to the other side.  However
little do they know, the cave is infested with
a huge pack of carnivorous species who
feasts on animals and humans.  Does
anyone make it out alive?  Does anyone
see the light of day again?  Well, you will
just have to wait and find out.  This is more
of a R rated adaptation of the PG-13 “The
Cave” or like an on-earth version of Alien.

OK with that being said, this movie was ok,
but really lacked any sense of originality.  I
am not a huge horror movie fan and this
movie certainly borders on horror, given
the fact that it has buckets and buckets of
blood.  However like many horror movies,
they are meant to scare you.  This movie
was so NOT scary because it was so
predictable.  Even the order of the deaths
were predictable.  To me the movie is more
of a bloody thriller/suspense rather than a
horror, but you might think differently.  The
acting is above par and the dialogue is
actually very well written, however the
movie falls so short with its incredibly lame
storyline.  (Women get caught in cave,
people die, people try and get out, and lots
of blood.  Over)    It just feels a bit boring.
Do not get me wrong, the movie has a few
jump scenes and it has enough to keep
you engaged, but for all of the hype from
the critics, I expected so much more.

Save the few bucks and wait for video.
Like I said before, this movie has a LOT of
blood and gore, but totally it seems so fake
that you do not get grossed out.  How many
times do we have to watch a non-
empowered women jab an axe into a big
scary man/bat’s head.  It gets old.

Warning to Parents:
This movie has tons and tons of blood and
quite a bit of foul language.  The violence
consists of what you might expect in any
man eating human movie.
