Movie: Flags of Our Fathers

For War Violence and Language
It appears that one of my favorite movie makers and actors has decided to sell out and go to the liberal
side.  Stooping to the world of controversy and politics, Clint Eastwood turns Iwo Jima into a conspiracy
driven crapfest about WWII.  Instead of making a movie about the greatness of the heroes in World War II,
he decides to focus on supposed rumors that were flying around about a photograph that was taken during
the beginning parts of the great battle of Iwo Jima.

Flags of Our Fathers is a movie that will certainly get the praise of the Liberal Media because of its
accusations on the American Leadership and non-respectful mindset of the troops in action.  I did not say
disrespectful but I literally mean non-respectful approach to those who were fighting for our country.  The
movie buys directly into the lies that are happening to our country today and puts them right into the most
important war in American History.  It says that the leadership of WWII was all about money and politics and
their concern for the troops and country were secondary.  For all intent and purposes, say that the
American leadership did really care about the troops and just wanted to use them as pawns.

Flags of Our Fathers is the supposed true story about how the men who put up the flag at Iwo Jima were not
really the ones who put up the flag in the first place.  The movie claims that there were two flags put up and
the second flag was staged.  The movie goes on to say that the first flag was supposed to be a trophy piece
for the general in charge.  He orders the troops to climb up the hill and take down the first flag and then put
up another one in its place.  This all takes place far before they even captured the island and about 5 days
into the war.  In reality there were two flags but nothing occurred like this movie claims.  The first flag was
put in one spot but they realized that they should have another flag in a more intimidating and central
location on the Island.  Therefore they commanders in charge ordered another flag placed in another area.
Which in reality is smart from a strategy purpose, so that the enemy can see the flag in all its glory.  Both
flags should get praise and who in the world should care about which one was in the photograph.  However
this movie sets out on a mission to destroy the reputation of those who put up the second flag and make up
some lame story about how it happened.

They do not come out directly and slam the troops; however they do not go out of their way to make the
heroes of WWII look good.  The movie is so caught up with trying to be as politically correct as possible that
this movie comes off as a desecration rather than a story about brave men and women.

Not to pick this movie apart too much, but this the acting in this movie was absolutely horrible and the cast
was totally misplaced.  There was a flood of B movie actors that made up a huge cast of kids who appeared
to be acting, rather than to be living the experience.  Two of the three heroes were so bad that you just
wished they would get off the screen as quickly as possible.  However with that said, there were two actors
that were great.  The first was Ryan Philippe who starred as the doctor and was apart of the central 3
characters raising the flag.  The other was Barry Pepper who an excellent actor who always gives his all in
every movie he makes.

Continuing my rail against this movie, I was absolutely shocked at how bad the special effects were.  There
were 3 crucial errors in the movie that did not line up with reality.  First of all let me tell you that I went to the
movie with a Vet and he had some great things to say about the facts of the war.   Error 1:  They showed a
“Troy” like approach to the Iwo Jima, with a barrage of ships, aircraft and military, when in all reality the
Island was small and there was not a HUGE military presence as represented.  Otherwise the Island would
have been taken in a few days.  Error 2:  The gore in the movie was so unrealistic that it really hurt the
movie.  OK, War is Hell but War is NOT supernatural.  They movie had scenes that were so hokey that you
just had to laugh.  In once scene a bomb went off next to a guy and his buddy explodes.  He is looking
around for him and out of no where his head, with helmet in place, lands right on top of HIS head.  I mean
give me a break.  Also, every single scene of an explosion shows the insides of a persons stomach turned
inside out.  OK maybe once in a while that happens, but do not show things that are not medically possible
for the situation at hand.  This list goes on about the medical inaccuracies.  Error 3:  EVERYTHING looked
fake and computer generated with concerns to the boats and huge military presence.  I loved some of the
battle scenes when they were on the Island, but everything else looked like a movie set rather than
realistic.

This movie is not only a terrible representation of our leadership, military and Iwo Jima, but a disgrace to the
troops who bravely fought.  The message of the movie was such a lie.  They said that the men in uniform
did not really fight for our country but they fought for one another.  That is such a lie and many vets would
agree.  They men certainly cared about their fellow brother in arms; however they fought for our country in
WWII.  This whole mindset we have now days, caused by the liberals in office, have made the military all
about controversy and all about bashing any leader in charge.  This mindset has hurt the reputation of our
country and troops.

Lastly, this movie takes a very humanistic approach toward religion and the name of Jesus or God is totally
absent from anyone mouth in this movie.  It is almost as if they were afraid to offend anyone so that just left
one of the most significant parts of the military out.  “God”, was a HUGE part of the war and the men in
uniform knew that.

God Bless the Vets of WWII and I gratefully thank them for the sacrifice they paid.  Our generation owes
them a great deal of respect, honor and praise.
