Movie: Flyboys
4 of 4 Stars (Best Movie of the Year)

Rated PG-13 for War Violence
(Important:  For some reason the MPAA says
"sexual content" and that is NOT true.  Two of
the key characters crash land when they wake
up, they are in a brothel.  This DID happen in
real life.  The women are NOT dressed scantily
and there is NOTHING suggestive.  There is
NOT sexual content in the movie.  For all intent
and purposes, it is totally clean.)
4 of 4 Stars

Flyboys

Sit back and fasten your seatbelt for a classic thrill ride that will surprise you around every turn.  Pulse
pounding action, historical heroes and innocent romance describe the factual account of a flight
regiment in WWI.  Flyboys is by far the best movie of the year.  Flyboys delivers the best acting, action
and character association that I have seen in a very long time.  We have a history movie that does not
fudge the truth to fit a modern day agenda or social stereotype and we have a movie that is not afraid
to show character as a badge of honor.  Many of the critics that you will read on sites like Rotten
Tomatoes are slamming this movie, not because it is a bad movie but because the movie is too old
fashioned and too over the top.  Since when is “Old Fashioned” a bad thing!?  This movie is made very
much like a classic war movie and to its benefit, that is what makes it so great.  It has been a long time
since we have seen a movie that makes God, Country and Character the foundation of a movie.
There is even one of the lovable heroes that sings “Onward Christian Soldier” when he goes out to
battle.   It has been a long time since we have seen a war movie that is not R rated and filled with tons
of harsh language and it has been a long time since we have seen Bravery not be a two sided political
controversy.

Flyboys is the story of one of the first military flight forces in WWI.  France is being invaded by the
Germans and they put out a call for anyone across the globe who will join their forces and help assist
against the invasion.  This call enlist the likes of heroes like Rawlings who is a cowboy from the United
States and Philip Winchester who plays a man striving to muster up the courage to fulfill his destiny.
Jean Reno plays the commander and trainer of this elite team of fighters and a man who shows the
strength and compassion which seem to be absent in leadership today.  Once the team of fighters is
assembled, they must fight against the 3 week death ratio and do what they can to protect the innocent
and stay alive.  This movie delivers that of academy award caliber musical scores, academy award
caliber directing, academy award caliber special effects and academy award caliber acting.

The dogfights are so impressive that I felt like I was actually in the air planes.  You forget that you are
watching a movie and you feel like you are in the seat with the pilots.  You even lose sight of the fact
that you are watching a movie about classic airplanes.  The fighting sequences are so amazing that
you might even compare them to Top Gun.

One of the things that really impressed me about the press screening, was that they gave us historical
fact sheets that we were able to read before we saw the movie.  It was incredible to read about the
things in the movie that many might think are just tossed in the movie for the sake of action or drama.
The amazing thing is almost everything in the movie actually was true.  Yes, even the Lion guys!

For all of you who are wondering why the rating is PG-13 and why the poster and advertising says
“sexual content”, please do not let that scare you.  There is NO sexual content in this movie.  There is
a factual account of a crash landing and the two characters wake up in a brothel.  There is not an
abundance of cleavage and there is not sex that takes place.  They quickly leave and nothing
happens.  Please know that there is NO sex in this movie.

I am giving this movie 4 of 4 stars for a great movie that shows the character and courage of real life
people, incredible acting, great directing and wonderful special effects.  However one of the best parts
of the movie is the incredible musical score.  The musical score may be what really captivates you and
sucks you in.  Although everything else is wonderful.

Parental Warning:  I would say this movie is great for 10 and up.  There are no sexual content and no
references, other than the putting down of someone going to a brothel.  This movie does have some
great aerial stunts and some violence with a limited amount of blood.
