The story takes place in the Boston neighborhood of Dorchester, where 4 year-old Amanda McCready disappears without a trace. Local police are unable to find a clue and after 3 days of searching, Amanda’s desperate Aunt and Uncle hire private investigators Patrick Kenzie, (Casey Affleck) and Angie Genarro, (Michelle Monaghan) to take the case.
Under qualified and un-certain about accepting the case, Angie finally gives into Patrick’s insistence as they learn the truth about the drug habits and life style of the missing girls mother, Helene (Amy Ryan). As they look for clues in the slums of their neighborhood they encounter drug-dealers, ex-cons and pedophiles which only add confusion to their search. During the height of the investigation they meet resistance for their involvement by detective, Remy Bressant (Ed Harris) and police captain Jack Doyle (Morgan Freeman) but eventually and reluctantly are allowed to participate in the investigation.
Casey Affleck and Morgan Freeman are superb in their performance and you will find yourself on the edge of your seat as the turn of events reveals Amanda’s fate.
The story line is terrific and if you enjoy a “who-done-it” film, you’ll love this one!
Warning to Parents
Not a good film for younger movie goers. Violence and language content (lot of use of the “F” word). If you invite friends to join you for your night at the movies and they know what to expect from an “R” rated film, like I said, you’ll love this one.
