Over the Hedge was a fun and exciting follow up to all of the big budget cartoons that have
been hitting the big screen over the past several years. Although I did not think it was quite
as good as The Incredibles, Shrek, or Beauty and the Beast, Over the Hedge is a delight for
just about everyone in the family.

The plot centers around a little raccoon who is caught trying to steal a bear’s food.  In the
midst of the commotion surrounding the attempted robbery, the food ends up falling away
and getting hit by a truck.  The bear captures the raccoon thief and they strike a deal;
replenish all of the food and the raccoon can live, otherwise he dies.  So the journey begins.
The raccoon finds a group of kind and trusting animals who agree to help him find food, but
for themselves not the bear.  The raccoon cons them into doing all of his dirty work and the
rest is history.

This movie has its down right funny moments and I left the theater having really enjoyed
myself.  There is not much to the plot which, for kids, is a good thing but, for adults, you
might get a bit bored watching the same thing happening over and over.  That said, if the kid
in you is still alive and healthy you will probably appreciate this movie.

The best part of the movie is this little spazoid fox who steals the show from everyone else.
This little guy bounces off the walls more than a super ball.  Your sides will hurt from
laughing when they give him an energy drink.

The big question that I have been asked so far is whether or not the content is appropriate
for kids.  There are a few jokes about the fox’s nuts, and they also have a few jokes about
animals licking themselves, but all in all, it’s not as bad as Shrek.  Shrek was a great movie
but it did push my “kid approved” limits.

This was a fun movie for the whole family and I highly recommend it, UNLESS your child is
one of those that picks up on jokes and repeats them everywhere, in which case you would
want to leave them at home for this one.

PG for some mild crude humor and funny animated violence.
