Snakes on a Plane 1.5 of 4 Stars
Rated R for a Scene of Sexuality, Language and Lots of Gore and Violence
Starring: Samuel L. Jackson, Nathan Phillips, Rachel Blanchard, Julianna Margulies, Flex Alexander
Directed by: David Richard Ellis
Snakes on a Plane is the soon to be cult classic that became a hit before it even hit the theaters. Mostly because of the cheesy name and the content of the movie. Cult Classics are not usually big box office successes and usually follow a pretty campy story line. So in every sense of the word, Snakes on a Plane is certainly destined for cultdom.
Snakes on a Plane is the story of a man who witnesses an assassination and now he must testify in court to see that the bad guy is brought to justice. Samuel Jackson is the FBI agent who is in charge of seeing that he gets there. During a plane flight from Hawaii to California, the bad guys unleash a huge batch of fake looking snakes to kill everyone inside and hopefully bring down the plane. When the snakes are eventually unleashed, people start dying and the big fake snakes reek havoc on every man, woman and child.
The acting was so bad, the script was pathetic and the movie went absolutely no where. The only thing the movie delivered was a bunch of gross out deaths and a few scares to go along with it. The director for some odd reasons believes that the best way to introduce the snakes to the movie is by having a snake break into a bathroom where a couple is trying to join the “mile high club” and then the next snake decides to bite a man in the crotch when he is going to the bathroom. You can probably see where this movie is going. Absolutely no where. OK, the next scene is a snake crawling up a very large woman’s skirt while she is sleeping. She thinks its a dream and is in Heaven for a few moments when all of the sudden she is bitten. I mean come on guys, is that the best writing they have out there. That has got to be some of the most pathetic writing I have seen in quite a while. All of these pathetic scenes are followed by snakes eating dogs, jumping through eyes and swallowing one man whole.
Something that would have helped this movie a whole lot, would be if they decided to stick with the first cut of the movie. The director felt that it would be more advantageous to make this movie R instead of the original PG-13 rating. You can actually see where they added in the foul language and bloody scenes. Not to mention the Mile High scene in the bathroom. No the scene in the bathroom was not meant to tease the audience but more to set up the first scene of the snake.
Samuel L Jackson and the rest of the crew did a decent job with the acting but really this movie just was too boring to get into. I strongly recommend you stay away from this movie.
Parental Warning: Scene of Sexuality (Kind of) in the bathroom, language, and extreme gore and violence. This movie is way too dumb for adults and way to violent and filthy for kids.
