"Thank You for Smoking" is the satirical comedy that deals with both sides of the smoking industry. Yes, I mean both sides. It is amazing how the director somehow fairly balance the Republican and Democrat sides of the issue while showing that both sides have a point and yet both are pointless "Thank You for Smoking" is about a man named Nick Naylor who nails every single speech he gives while he is employed as the number one lobbyist for the Tobacco conglomerates. Nick is the voice of the cigarettes themselves. He can make anything sound good and he can put a smile on the face of a patient dying of lung cancer. While representing Big Tobacco, he has no heart or soul. He is a part of a trio called the MOD Squad, with one person represents Guns, another Alcohol, and Nick as the spokesmen for Tobacco. They sit around and compare death charts and he (or she) who has the most deaths reigns supreme.
On the flip side, you have a panel of regulation happ y Democrats who only want to gain financially from Tobacco and use peoples hatred of tobacco to accomplish their financial missions. They want to pass a law that has a huge skull and crossbones across all cigarette packages. Republicans really just do not care and are willing to grow tobacco and fight against any regulation that comes their way, regardless of the consequences. The Democrats and Republicans battle it out in this would be farce that really does show how politically entrenched the tobacco industry is on both sides of the fence. The main point of the movie is that smoking is fine and those who are trying to outlaw it are nuts, but at the same time smoking is insane and those who are supporting it are dead wrong as well. It plays the fine line of making both look bad and even sneeks in a subtle family value about being an example to your children. That's the whole movie in a nutshell and it's actually a lot of fun to watch Many who read my reviews know that I am a conservative and that I am the first person to point out the political message in a movie. This movie is full of party lines, both Democrat and Republican, and it honestly does do equal injustice to both. Warning to Parents: Sex without nudity, sexual jokes and language. This movie is not for kids.
