You, Me and Dupree is the mad cap adult comedy about a 36 year old man, Randy Dupree (Owen Wilson), who believes in living a very carefree and relaxed life without responsibility or stress. Things begin to heat up soon after he is the “BM” (best man) in his best friend’s wedding, and he is left homeless due to a lack of dedication to his job. The newlyweds, Carl and Molly Peterson, are more than happy to help their friend in need and Dupree is allowed to become a temporary couch guest. Good intentions turn into catastrophic events and innocent devotion turns into careless mishaps. Randy Dupree is one of the nicest friends someone can ask for but everything he does seems to go wrong and he is always caught in the most embarrassing circumstances. Dupree does however know that he is destined for something big in his life and that the “mother ship” has given him a purpose. What purpose? What great feat will Dupree achieve? I guess if you watch this movie you might find out.
To add to the mayhem, Carl’s new father in-law/boss (Michael Douglas), Mr. Thompson, is making it his mission to see that the marriage ends as quickly as it began. Thompson wants his son-in-law to change his last name to his, tells him to get a vasectomy so he can concentrate more on work and makes other insane demands on his job.
You, Me and Dupree is a very boring movie for about the first hour but picks up steam in the second half. The movie is probably as predictable as one can possibly imagine and has all the humor of a perverted college student. PLEASE be warned that this movie is VERY filthy and filled with sexual situations, discussion about masturbation, habitual talk about pornography and sex and sexual situations are the main vehicle for this movie’s humor. This movie should not have been rated PG-13 by any stretch of the imagination, and is NOT FOR KIDS OR TEENS by any means.
That said, Owen Wilson who plays Dupree is always absolutely hysterical and may very well have the most charismatic charm of any comedic actor today. I would easily put Owen Wilson up against Jim Carey and Adam Sandler and probably say that Owen Wilson is a lot more entertaining.
I would give this movie 2.5 stars for a movie that starts off slow and ends with a solid finish.
PARENTAL WARNING: NOT FOR KIDS OR TEENS! Replete with nudity, sexual jokes, sexual discussion and sexual situations.
